Historical-memorial Museum center of I.A. Goncharov

The building, which is a museum now, was built in the late XVII century. June 18, 1812 I.A. Goncharov the writer was born. The house did not survive in its original form: in the late XIX century an annexe was made of red brick, the third floor was built, the windows were expanded, and the old Goncharov house was faced with new brickwork with shaped bricks. The museum has got a unique collection of items belonging to Goncharov, his family and friends, household items and furniture of the XIX century, manuscripts and rare books of the XVIII-XIX centuries, the iconography of the writer, portraits of relatives and contemporaries, documents and photographs. The museum has acquired worldwide fame and became a recognized center for international Study of Goncharov today.
